Last week, I felt rather inspired by the subject line of a spam email I received. Despite sketching a general layout for the comic, I decided to start with the last panel and work my way backwards through the idea. This image is what I have so far on that last panel.
The character seen here is Agent 5 3/4 from Milk, Sex & Cookies - a story I began back in 2003 and eventually will finish one of these days.
Eventually.
This isn't the only time I've worked backwards on an idea. Back towards the end of 2005, I found myself rather inspired by a nature program I watched. Not surprising, the last panel popped into my head before anything else:
I have an idea of what I want for the panels prior to the above, but they are currently not fleshed out.
